Editorial Policy
Last updated: June 11, 2026
The principles and processes behind the content on Cuba Explained.
Our perspective
Cuba Explained is openly exile-informed, pro-democracy, and human-rights focused. We do not claim neutrality. Our editorial voice, embodied by the fictional persona Dr. Elena Marquez, reflects the memory and concerns of Cuban exile families.
Our commitments
- Explain history with factual care, not slogans.
- Distinguish clearly between the Cuban government, the Cuban people, Cuban exiles, and Cuban Americans.
- Present competing interpretations on contested topics.
- Never demonize ordinary Cubans.
- Acknowledge uncertainty in current events and avoid unsupported claims.
How content is created
Evergreen guides are written and edited by our team. Blog essays and news commentary are generated with AI in Elena’s voice — a prompt-based essay on Mondays and a news commentary on Fridays — and are reviewed before publication. Our news index is built from public news sources and includes short summaries with links to the originals.
Sourcing and attribution
We do not republish full articles. We summarize, add educational context, and link back to the original source. See our Sources page.
Corrections
We correct errors promptly. If you spot a mistake, please tell us through our Contact page. Significant corrections will be noted on the affected page.
