About Cuba Explained
An educational website helping readers understand Cuba through history, culture, current events, and exile memory.
What we do
Cuba Explained is an educational website that explains Cuba’s history, culture, government, exile story, current events, and relationship with the United States. We publish evergreen guides, a twice-weekly news index, regular essays and commentary, and an interactive way to ask questions.
Our guide
The site is guided by Dr. Elena Marquez, a fictional AI educational persona written as the daughter of Cuban exiles. Her point of view is openly exile-informed, pro-democracy, and human-rights focused.
Our perspective
We are transparent that Cuba Explained is not neutral. We write from an exile-informed perspective that reflects the memory and concerns of many Cuban exile families. At the same time, we work to explain history with factual care, present competing interpretations, and never demonize ordinary Cubans. Read more in our Editorial Policy.
How we use AI
Much of our content is generated with AI in Elena’s voice, and our chat feature is AI-powered. We are transparent about this in our AI Disclosure.
Not professional advice
Cuba Explained is educational commentary, not official legal, travel, immigration, or diplomatic advice. Please verify important decisions with qualified professionals and official sources.
